The children learn of their father’s death in no euphemistic terms as their mother tells them, â€Å"Listen, children: Your father is dead.† Rather than immediately becoming emotional, she focuses on the practical needs of her children, telling them that she’ll make them pants and jackets from his old clothing. She says, â€Å"Life must go on,† and â€Å"the dead must be forgotten,† stoically facing a bleak future. Abstract The purpose of this research paper is that to present the difficulties Procter & Gamble faced in the early 1980 ¡Ã‚ ¦s due to a correlation between the company ¡Ã‚ ¦s Rely tampon and the disease Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). Also, how the company handled the findings before and after new laws were passed by Congress giving the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate medical devices, which included tampons. Thereafter, I will analyze the ethical issues relevant to this case within a SWOT analysis. Introduction Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about how companies manage their business processes to produce a positive impact on society. Companies introduce new products in markets, usually after testing concludes that the product is safe for use or consumption. It is nearly impossible for a company to truly know all of the potential risks a brand new product may have, even after thorough testing. However, once a company receives reports that its product may be causing harm to consumers, it is their responsibility to conduct more research and tests to rule-out any possible truth in the reports. This is what a socially responsible company would do, one who is preoccupied not only with their bottom-line, but one that is also worried about its customers. After Procter & Gamble introduced its Rely tampon in the market in the 1970 ¡Ã‚ ¦s, the company began receiving reports as early as 1975 that the product was causing a rare but possibly deadly disease, TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). This product was not made with cotton as the competitors ¡Ã‚ ¦ tampons. The Rely tampon was made with synthetics, like carboxymethylcellulose and polyester in order to be the first extended wear and most absorbent tampon in the market. I am writing to express my interest in the Master of Arts in Physical Education with Single Subject Teaching Credential at Azusa Pacific University. I am aware it provides the best education and environment for both graduate and post-graduate students. I currently hold my Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication from the University of Wyoming (WYO). While attending WYO, I lettered in the schools football program and physical education played an integral role in keeping my body prepared for the physicality of the sport. I developed an interest in physical education when I began coaching football for at risk youth at the Cathedral Home for Children, my junior and senior years at (WYO). Since I graduated I have been working as a substitute teacher and football coach at the high school level for two years. These work experiences have taught me patience, perseverance, and interpersonal skills. I have dealt with students/athletes from various backgrounds; therefore, making me more flexible when it comes to my coaching/teaching methods. I also became more creative in coming up with ways to inspire my students/athletes and help them reach their long-term goals. The personal qualities and the skills that I have acquired will surely aid me in fulfilling your requirements and hopefully increase the chance of securing a place in your institution.
